Margolin applied the Page 69 Test to Betrayal, his seventh novel in the series featuring Robin Lockwood, ex-MMA fighter and Yale law school graduate, and reported the following:
If a reader opened Betrayal to page 69 the reader would learn about Mandy Kerrigan's background, but would not learn much about the book. In Betrayal, the four members of the Finch family are murdered in their suburban home. Mandy Kerrigan, a former MMA world champion whose career is ending, is charged with the murders and attorney Robin Lockwood represents her. Ten years before, Robin was a ranked MMA fighter, who was attending Yale law school. Kerrigan knocked out Robin and ended her career as a fighter. Mandy is a very important character in the book, but page 69 would not explain why she is important or what the book is about.Visit Phillip Margolin's website and Facebook page.
